Robin (Tom) Tipps is a Sports Medicine Fellow at the University of Colorado, and is spending a year as one of the team physicians for CU, as well as a few of the professional teams in Denver. His primary team is CU women's basketball, but he's also helping with football, women's volleyball, women's soccer, women's lacrosse, men's basketball, and the track/field teams. On the professional side, his primary team is the Colorado Rapids of MLS, but he also does some coverage for the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche. He is also spending some time in Colorado Springs with the Olympic and Paralympic athletes at the USOPC training center. After he obtained his MD program at Duke and his JD at Yale, he did his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation with a focus in Sports/Pain Medicine at UPMC in Pittsburgh.Prior to Yale, Tom was working with Johns Hopkins University as a research assistant, where he helped with two projects: the first was a study of the TaqI restriction enzyme at the Center for Bariatric Surgery. The second was at the Center for American Indian Health, where he worked with the White Mountain Apache in Arizona to develop and evaluate one part of a three-pronged program to combat youth suicide on their reservation. A 2014 Mitchell Scholar, Tom studied Public Law at the University of Galway. While his degree was in public law, his professors let him tailor much of his writing to Native welfare and sovereignty policy, which opened his eyes to many of the difficulties IHS-dependent tribes face.
Tom obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma.
